EPICS Co-Sponsorship Criteria & Process
for Faculty & Campus Partners

What is EPICS?

The School of Communication External Programs, Internships, and Career Services (EPICS) unit provides career support, guidance, and alumni engagement opportunities for students enrolled in SoC undergraduate, professional, and Doc Media and Writing for the Screen and Stage MFA programs.

EPICS administers the SoC internship awards program; EPICS professional staff provide career advising, develop and present career-related workshops, programs, events and treks, as well as teach several career courses – including the internship and SoC Capstone – in the school.

EPICS reports to the office of undergraduate programs and advising (OUPA).

EPICS regularly receives and responds to requests from individual faculty, academic programs, students, and student organizations to co-sponsor events, programs, and activities. For EPICS to be a co-sponsor, the event/program/activity must enhance student(s) knowledge of industry and career paths/fields supported in the SoC curricula.

Below, please find guidelines to facilitate requests for EPICS co-sponsorship support

Allocation of EPICS staff and/or fiscal resources to support an SoC or campus event. Support may include:

  • Brainstorming or Implementation of Event
  • Developing promotional strategy
  • Financial Support
  • Administrative Support
  • The event/program/activity has been approved by the appropriate campus unit, and is receiving some support from that unit/home department
  • The event/program/activity will be open to more than one SoC program/department; or have additional opportunities for other members of the SoC student community to engage
  • The event/program/activity falls within the stewardship scope of one of our dedicated gift or endowed funds*

EPICS can provide financial support for the following types of expenses:

  • Travel & lodging
  • Event related catering and space reservation expenses
  • Non-alumni speaker honoraria or speaker fees as budget allows ($200-$400)
  • Student conference, workshop or activity fees*
  • Tickets for co-curricular events (ex: film festivals, performances, etc.)
  • EPICS can order catering and book space if needed
  • The unit requesting EPICS administrative support staff should arrange:
    • Travel (flight, hotel, car service to/from hotel)
    • Dining / Food

Please fill out the Co-sponsorship Request Form,  and we will be in touch within 3-5 business days.  We request at least 4 weeks advance notice for co-sponsorship requests.

  • If you are only requesting support with marketing and distribution such as including events in our newsletter, you can send an email to epics@northwestern.edu with the subject line: Please include in student newsletter.
  • In the body of the email please include marketing materials and information and which student populations we should notify of this event (ex. undergrads only, undergrad & grad, specific majors, etc.).
  • We encourage as many events as possible to be open to all SoC students.
